Moving a UK LEI to Trusted LEI

UK companies are free to choose who maintains their LEI. Moving it from your current provider changes nothing that your counterparties see: the 20-character code is identical before and after, and only the managing issuer shown in the GLEIF record changes. Firms usually move to consolidate group entities with one provider, to get multi-year pricing in sterling, or because renewal reminders from the old provider stopped arriving.

You start the transfer here. We request the record from the current issuer through the GLEIF transfer process, check the data against Companies House as part of the move, and renew it if it is close to its renewal date or has lapsed. Your existing provider does not need to be contacted separately.

For a UK transfer we need

  • The 20-character LEI you want to move
  • The CRN or other registration number, so we can match the record to Companies House
  • Confirmation from a director or authorised person that the company agrees to the transfer

UK LEI transfer questions

Will our broker or trade repository notice the transfer?

Only if they look at the managing issuer field. The LEI code, legal name and address stay the same, so reporting and onboarding records do not have to be updated.

Can the current provider refuse to release our LEI?

Issuers must allow transfers under GLEIF rules. They can only delay one while there is a genuine data challenge on the record.

Do we lose the time we already paid for?

The renewal date is kept. If you prepaid several years with the old provider, ask them about refunds, because the remaining period does not carry over to a new issuer.
